The Founder's Story

Lance Morris

My father was a jack-of-all-trades kind of man. He was so capable that he said yes to any opportunity for work. My father worked hard, and he expected the same from me. As early as eight, I remember sweeping concrete slabs he’d poured, we begged him and were eager to prove to ourselves that we could keep up. He told us “If you work like a man, I’ll pay you like a man”. I remember making good money if I worked hard and best of all I got to do it with my father, who was always loving, supporting, and a life coach. He is my best friend today. I remember helping him fix gas pumps, doing landscaping, etc. most importantly though I remember his work ethic. He cultivated this in me at a very early age. I remember his ethos and honor.

By twelve, my twin and I bought our first lawn mower, and we were doing lawn work and landscaping. When we were able to drive, we bought a trailer and a truck, and our business grew. Our business grew and we became leaders. However, college beckoned and that was when our father took over. We continued the work, but he was able to grow our lawn mowing business into a thriving full-service landscape company that is still growing today.

Family Life

After graduating, my high school sweetheart and I started college at UTSA. There, I discovered healthcare and that I had a disposition for it. I devoted my days to my studies and my nights were spent working often still doing landscaping but now in San Antonio. I worked my way into nursing school and earned a spot in a trauma ICU straight out of graduation.

I had long-since married my high school sweetheart and we’d bought a home to start a family in. My wife and I decided to have our first son. At the same time, I started my master’s degree to become a nurse practitioner. During my clinicals I earned a position with a great group of individuals in the emergency department. A year into my time there, they rewarded me with the leadership role I’m still in.

Landscaping and Excavation

Fast forward, I decided to start doing landscaping and excavation again. I simply enjoyed being outside and working with my hands. Growing a business and putting great people around me. I have made contacts over the years and business relationships with some of the best people in the pool and landscape space not just in the area but in the state of Texas. People who have been doing this for 20+ years were eager to mentor and work with me as we began this venture. With my own experience in excavation, pools, landscaping, and backyard design coupled with those of my mentors and partners we do something truly special that others in this industry don’t do. We build transformable backyard retreats.

This is where I currently find myself. I am still married to the love of my life, the proud father of two amazing boys, practicing emergency medicine, and building a pool and landscape design business with two like-minded friends I am lucky enough to share this endeavor with.

Some might question what business a healthcare provider has to be in the pool industry. I understand that. It all goes back to the beginning really. One of my father’s lessons was this: “Li¬fe and others can take everything from you, but the one thing they can’t take is your honor. That you must give away.” I will never give it away. It is at the very core of who I am. Honorable work that serves me and others has never failed me, and it will not fail me now. My past, my present, my person, my team—it all serves me to be able to deliver a stellar backyard oasis to anyone that gives me a call.
